Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting

Greenhouse gas emissions reporting is currently one of the topics that businesses are paying attention to. According to Decree 06/2022/ND-CP and Decision 01/2022/QD-TTg, the Government has issued a list of sectors and emission sources that must conduct greenhouse gas inventories. Accordingly, there will be around 3,000 facilities that will have the responsibility to monitor and comply with this new Decree, in order to achieve the country's sustainable development goals in the future.

Recognizing this, MinMax Green has compiled the information that businesses need to know about this greenhouse gas inventory reporting.

Understanding Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting

What are greenhouse gas emissions?

When the sun shines on the Earth's surface, it will reflect long-wave radiation (infrared), while also distributing heat energy to the Earth. Greenhouse gas emissions refer to the gasses that have the ability to absorb the infrared radiation reflected from the Earth's surface. The most common greenhouse gasses today include CO2, water vapor, N2O, CH4, O3, and CFC gasses.

Why is it necessary to report greenhouse gas emissions?

Businesses need to conduct greenhouse gas emissions reporting for the following two reasons:

Greenhouse gas emissions reporting as per legal requirements

According to Decision 01/2022/QD-TTg issued on January 18, 2022 by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, certain sectors and emission sources are mandated to conduct greenhouse gas inventories and reporting. This is an important decision aimed at minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change.

Greenhouse gas emissions reporting as per customer requirements

Some major brands are now applying programs or management tools to control the sourcing of materials from companies, ensuring compliance with greenhouse gas emission limits. Some commonly applied programs/management tools include the TCVN ISO 14064-1:2011 standard, Higg FEM 3.0, GRS 4.0, GOTS 6.0, and others.

Which facilities are required to report greenhouse gas emissions?

Facilities required to conduct greenhouse gas inventories

According to Decision 01/2022/QD-TTg, there will be 6 sectors required to conduct greenhouse gas inventories, including: energy, transportation, construction, industrial processes, agriculture-forestry and land use, and waste. Specifically, facilities with emissions of 3,000 tons of CO2 equivalent or more, or those that fall under the following cases:

  • Thermal power plants, industrial production facilities with annual energy consumption of 1,000 tons of oil equivalent (TOE) or more.

  • Freight transportation companies with annual fuel consumption of 1,000 TOE or more.

  • Commercial buildings with annual energy consumption of 1,000 TOE or more.

  • Solid waste treatment facilities with annual operating capacity of 65,000 tons or more.

The above facilities are mandated to measure, calculate, and report their greenhouse gas emissions to the relevant authorities as part of the government's efforts to establish a comprehensive national greenhouse gas inventory system.

MinMax Green specializes in providing consulting services for greenhouse gas emission reporting.

If you are looking for professional consulting services to prepare greenhouse gas emission reports in accordance with the TCVN ISO 14064-1 standard, do not overlook MinMax Green.

Consulting and training support for greenhouse gas inventories

MinMax Green is currently a specialized consulting firm that provides guidance, training, and support to help businesses independently determine their emission levels and conduct greenhouse gas inventories. This enables them to then develop appropriate actions to progress towards carbon neutrality and net-zero emissions - in line with the government's requirement for businesses to report on their greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
If your business is facing challenges in greenhouse gas emissions reporting, we encourage you to contact us immediately. We will provide you with the necessary consulting and support to address these issues in the quickest manner possible.
